How Do You Know If You Need Additional Coverage?

Many people are overwhelmed by the costs of purchasing and maintaining a vehicle.

With the additional cost of insurance, many people don’t see how they can afford anything more than the minimum amount of coverage.

However, you have to factor in the cost of losing your car if it is damaged or even totaled and all you have is liability coverage.

If your budget has room for additional coverage, you might consider:

  • Collision insurance – for repairs that amount to the Blue Book value of the car, and in the case that the damages are found to exceed this value, will award the owner with the cash value of the vehicle.
  • Gap insurance – for cars that are totaled while there is still a balance remaining on the loan. If the value is greater than the Blue Book value of the car, gap insurance will provide you with the difference.
